Hello! I’m Haych. I am an ABTC-registered Dog Trainer (ATI) and Animal Behaviour Technician (ABT) based in Brighton, East Sussex, with a specialism in dogs. I offer training and behavioural assessments/follow-up sessions on Saturdays, Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays each week, which involve a visit to your home. I am based in Woodingdean, East Sussex.
I practice ethical, force-free, non-aversive training techniques, and am overseen by the ABTC and PACTs code of conduct. I am also a student member of the FABC (Foundation of Animal Behaviour Clinicians).
I believe in a Dog Centric Approach. I will meet you and your dog where you are at on the day. I work holistically and try to make the sessions accessible and comprehensible for everyone involved. We all learn at a different pace, and I will prioritise you and your dogs' welfare at all times. I aim to help strengthen the bond between you and give you and your dog agency on what and how we learn. We'll work together!
What I can help with:
- Structuring your home environment for your dogs welfare to maximize
- Introducing visitors to the home if your dog is anxious
- Pre and post adoption support and advice, specific to overseas rescues
- Problems related to holding your dogs attention, over-excitement/excessive arousal
- Lead frustration
- Predation tendency management
- Introducing enrichment techniques which alleviate frustration and promote the guardian/dog bond
- Replacing unwanted behaviours with preferred behaviours
- Overseas Rescue Dogs and how to manage their specific needs
- Breed specific traits and addressing how these can be met, in a safe, manageable way
- If required, work alongside a Clinical Behaviourist for case specific/appropriate support; these cases tend to be more complex and can include but are not limited to: separation related issues, repetitive behaviours (tail chasing/spinning) issues where medical components maybe present and dogs with a prolonged bite history.
What does this actually mean?
- Designing and implementing procedures to safeguard against the development of problem behaviours
- Designing a training and behaviour plan for the client
- Working with or referring to a Clinical Animal Behaviourist on more complex cases
- Providing preventative advice to owners, handlers and co-professionals
- Providing behavioural first-aid advice to owners and handlers
My service offer is very much focused on preventing further escalation of any issues you are experiencing with your furry while coaching you in ways you can offer alternative behaviours to achieve more favourable results. I am happy to work with any/all dogs, once their problems are within my professional remit. Having volunteered with street dogs and as the guardian of my own overseas rescue, I feel this is an area I am drawn to. Failed adoptions are all too common; often, this is due to misunderstandings about these dogs. Reading body language accurately plays a huge part in working with each behavioural case. Dogs are excellent nonverbal communicators; I can teach you how to read your dog's body language, and once you understand what they are trying to communicate, your bond and training and behavioural work will come as less of a challenge.
If I deem a case too complex or outside of my remit, I will triage you to a reputable Clinical Behaviourist, and it can be the case, that we will work together to help you and your dog. You can claim costs back through your pet insurance for this service.
Please note: I will not work with anyone who uses prong, spray or shock/e-collars, and/or verbal/physical punishment.
